Under the direction of a supervisor, performs clerical and office work of a repetitive and routine nature requiring accurate typing and knowledge of Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures. Medical Clerk will be performing a variety of general and advanced clerical tasks including maintenance of file systems, logs, and records and compiling information to assist in the efficient accomplishment of support activities.
- Initiates the medical record by creating and processing the patient care record folder and maintain scanned documents in the electronic medical record
- Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records
- Perform other clerical duties such as scanning, photocopying, ordering and issuing supplies; and sending, receiving, sorting, and distributing mail
- Answer telephone calls in a courteous and efficient manner, route incoming calls to appropriate persons or offices, or takes messages
- Scheduling medical, dental and mobile radiology appointments
- Archiving records, cleaning out files and boxing files
- Review all inmate intake paperwork for errors and completion
- Send Request of Information via fax to inmate-patient providers to obtain past medical information.
- Scan Request of Information returns in a timely manner, and create tasks to appropriate team members (Mental Health NP, HOTBHN, Medical Providers, and Nursing)
- Scan dental visit paperwork in CorEMR
- Assist with preparing chain for transport paperwork in EDOC and CorEMR
- Assist with inmate-patient paperwork for outside provider appointments as needed
- Assist with inmate-patient scheduling
- Regular attendance and timeliness are required

EducationRequired:
- High School diploma or GED
Required:
- 1 year of clerical experience
- Current and valid TX driver’s license and a safe driving record
- Applicant must be twenty-one years of age on /or before date of hire
- Must maintain personal loyalty to the Sheriff
- General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook
- General skill in operating standard office equipment such as personal computers, calculators, and telephones
- Maintains good interpersonal relations (the manner in which the employee responds emotionally and verbally) with the public, or other employees, and supervisors
- Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality
- Knowledge of modern office practices concerning recordkeeping
- Possess a thorough understanding of the jail management records system
- Ability to accurately sort, file, and retrieve material using alphabetical, numerical, or chronological systems
- Keen attention to detail; careful and accurate data entry

- Arrested for DWI or DUI in the past ten (10) years
- Currently under indictment for any criminal offense
- Sold or manufactured any illegal drugs
- Conviction, guilty plea, or probation for any family violence offense
- Discharge from any military service under less than honorable conditions, or any other characterizations of service indicating bad character
