The Waco facility is looking for a Director of Operations role who can:
Deliver increased shareholder value through the management and leadership of the Waco manufacturing facility, has full Profit and Loss responsibility, Cashflow and Return on Investment responsibility, plans, directs and executes the unit's manufacturing plan, ensures conformance with Howmet standards, policies, regulations, and procedures within the scope of authority, maximizes customer satisfaction through deployment of the SOP (sales and operation plan) and on-time delivery of products which meet required specifications, continually improves the OEE (overall equipment effectiveness) of manufacturing processes, through the implementation of lean manufacturing principles, seeks to improve profit performance across all product lines through continual cost reduction, and can effectively manage inventory to reduce days on hand and maximize cash flow.

  • Develops annual revenue and manufacturing plan in consultation with other senior-level unit leaders to ensure proper deployment of resources to achieve required levels of production and to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Provides positive leadership to subordinate managers and to all assigned employees. Ensures open communications and responds to employee concerns in an appropriate manner. Seeks to improve the knowledge, skill and ability of people. Deals proactively with substandard performance.
  • Ensures full compliance with EHS standards, policies, procedures and processes as they apply to area of accountability. Confirms that incidents are thoroughly investigated and that root causes are identified and remedied on a systematic basis. Fosters a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Interfaces directly with key customers, in concert with Sales & Marketing Management and Account Managers to resolve problems related to delivery, quality and other issues. Strives to address customer concerns in a responsive, professional manner while protecting the interests of the Company.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments such as Sales & Marketing, Engineering/R&D, Purchasing, Accounting, Information Systems, and Human Resources. Secures required resources and consultative support from staff units as required.
  • Continually improves the performance of the Manufacturing organization through the application of ABS principles to drive down costs and improve location profitability. This includes the application of specific techniques such as kaizen rapid improvement events and the development of a Continuous Improvement mindset within the Manufacturing organization.
  • Participates with Purchasing personnel to develop partnerships with vendors which produce mutually beneficial arrangements related to purchased item quality and pricing. Ensures that concerns and issues related to purchased resources are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Interacts positively and effectively with personnel, both internal and external to the organization. This may include factory floor personnel, management at various levels throughout the Company and governmental regulators. Participates in external activities to secure a positive community image of the Company.
  • Provides technical manufacturing assistance to other components of the organization, including Company units both external and internal to HFS.
  • Analyzes and directs the preparation of Capital Appropriation Requests to secure required capital equipment for projects meeting or exceeding capital return targets.
  • Directs the activities of assigned human resources and makes recommendations on hiring, disciplinary actions, promotions, demotions, terminations and salary adjustments.
  • Performs all tasks involving hazardous chemicals or hazardous wastes in accordance with the SPCC Plan, RCRA regulations, and operation procedures outlined in the Environmental Management System.
  • Maintains full compliance with Company policies and procedures and conducts all activities in accordance with the Company Guide to Business Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelors' degree from an accredited university required; preferred to be in Engineering, Business, Operations or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, with five (5) or more years of that time in senior-level leadership roles.
  • Prior experience in customer service or supply chain is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with lean manufacturing, preferably in the fastener industry.
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
