POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Teach courses in audio fundamentals and production, including studio recording, mixing, and mastering, audio for video and sound design; plan and implement lessons, projects, and activities that utilize industry-standard software (DAWs) and hardware; manage student projects, provide feedback, supervise studio/lab time; maintain an accurate inventory of equipment; oversee the setup, maintenance, and repair of audio equipment, including studio, live sound gear, and digital recording systems;
manage student internships, connecting students with industry partners; teach and provide live sound reinforcement. This position may also include teaching courses in music business. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: active recruiting of Music Industry majors, attending all departmental concerts both on and off campus, maintaining office hours, serving on college committees, promoting and supporting the department's mission and goals, participating in professional development and faculty evaluations, and working across departments to develop student communication and problem-solving skills.
Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include face-to-face and non-traditional modalities or time frames, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This position reports to the Division Chair, Visual & Performing Arts.
NOTE:
This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
THE DEPARTMENT:
Music facilities consist of a 330-seat and a 100-seat performance hall, plus a 550-seat, outdoor amphitheater (Bosque River Stage), 14 practice rooms, a state-of-the-art digital recording studio, as well as faculty offices/studios and classrooms with up-to-date technology. The department is housed in the Ball Performing Arts Center and the Music and Theatre Arts Building. There are currently 6 full-time and 3 adjunct instructors in the Music Industry Careers Department.
In addition to an active on-campus concert schedule, Music Industry Careers faculty and ensembles perform throughout the Central Texas area. McLennan Community College is an All Steinway School.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:
Knowledge of: 1. All forms of Commercial or Popular Music such as Rock, Jazz, Country, Hip-Hop; 2. Audio electronics, signal routing, acoustic, and analog/digital equipment;
3. Multiple digital audio workstations (DAWs), music notation software, and other relevant software applications;
4. Teaching to various learning styles;
5. Various Compositional and Arranging techniques;
6. Current practices and trends in Music Business; 7. ADA standards as they apply to instruction;
Ability to: 8. Teach studio recording, live sound production, audio editing, and sound design;
9. Collaborate in recruitment/retention of Music Industry Career students; 10. Contribute to the department and support departmental performances; 11. Develop working relationships with industry partners and local high schools with recording technology programs; 12. Work collaboratively within and across departmental lines; 13. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure:
Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Music or Commercial Music from an accredited college or university
Experience:
Professional recording experience and teaching experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master's degree in Music or Commercial Music from an accredited college or university
