Minimum Qualifications Required- H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent
- 1 year of customer service and computer experience
- Fire Service Communications from The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) within 180 Days.
- Must successfully complete any additional background checks required for the position, which may include a CJIS background check, federal background check, or other applicable screenings (e.g., FAA) Upon Hire Date.
Under basic supervision, answers and processes emergency and non-emergency calls for the Waco Fire Department (WFD), emergency services agencies, and the general public; dispatches appropriate fire department resources and provides radio communications support to emergency responders.
Essential Functions- Answers emergency and non-emergency calls for fire, personal assistance and emergency medical assistance; determines appropriate call classification and priority.
- Takes information from callers and enters information into the computer database; provides assistance and information.
- Dispatches appropriate resources and monitors active radio traffic; manages resources for appropriate coverage of the city; maintains radio and dispatching equipment.
- May be required to respond after hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
