To provide communication access and accommodations to deaf/hard of hearing students, employees, and visitors for MCC classes, labs, services, meetings, events, and audio and video materials, etc. Employee may not work more than 19.5 hours per week.

Note:

This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: 1. American Sign Language, English-based sign systems, and English;
2. Deaf culture and cultural mediation;
Skills in: 3. Interpreting between American Sign Language and English;
4. Transliterating between English-based sign systems;
Ability to: 5. Be flexible and adjust easily to schedule changes;
6. Work with others in a professional environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Occasional field trips.  Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.). Walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis.  Work environment-Minimal hazard/exposure:
Standard office setting.
At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

BENEFITS:

Part-Time Retirement. Participation in Medicare Part A, but not Social Security (FICA).

NON-CERTIFIED INTERPRETERS ($35 Per Hour)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

High School Diploma or GED with some specialized technical training is typically vocational in nature or job-related college level course work

Experience:

More than 1 year of relevant work experience, but less than 3 years

CERTIFIED INTERPRETERS ($45 Per Hour)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

High School Diploma or GED with some specialized technical training is typically vocational in nature or job-related college level course work

Experience:

More than 1 year of relevant work experience, but less than 3 years

Special Requirements :
Current, relevant Certification at the State or National level
