Purpose:
Serve as Special Education Case Manager, develop and oversee implementation of student IEPs, collect and analyze data on student progress, monitor adherence to attendance and discipline policies, maintain compliance with federal, state and district policies, and provide specially‑designed instruction using research‑based methodologies.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate(s) with required special education endorsements
- Knowledge of disability categories and ability to develop specially‑designed instruction
- Expertise in differentiated instructional strategies, academic and behavioral
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to analyze data to recommend instructional practices
- Ability to manage personnel when necessary
- Superior organizational, time‑management, communication, public‑relations, interpersonal skills
- Superior problem‑solving skills
- Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal‑setting and implementation
- Approved student teaching/internship
- Comply with all Special Education Case Manager responsibilities per handbook, department, and district procedures.
- Develop, oversee implementation, and monitor student IEPs.
- Report progress to parents/guardians as outlined in IEPs.
- Train general education teachers to implement IEPs before first day of instruction and after each ARD.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students receive services outlined in IEPs and make progress in the general curriculum; individualized per IEP.
- Attend all required meetings (ARD, Case Manager, staff, faculty, PLC).
- Serve as liaison between general and special education, disseminating professional development.
- Collaborate in ARD Committee process to develop IEPs for each student.
- Plan and use research‑based instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment based on student needs.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher paraprofessionals and volunteers as required.
- Prepare lessons and lesson plans as required.
- Manage student behavior, including implementation of behavior intervention plans and research‑based interventions.
- Intervene in crisis situations and safe restraint per district procedures.
- Establish and maintain communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and required documents, including the Special Education Principal’s Notebook.
- Perform other duties related to Special Education as assigned.
Supervise assigned teacher paraprofessionals.
Working ConditionsMaintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non‑ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
