POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED
The Instructional Designer partners with faculty to develop and revise course materials using web-based learning management systems and instructional technologies. This position designs courses, creates multimedia learning materials, and provides training and guidance on effective course design, distance education tools, and ADA-compliant instructional content.
This position receives general direction from the Coordinator of Instructional Design and exercises no supervision.
NOTE:
This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:
Knowledge of: 1. Learning management systems such as D2L Brightspace and other web-based course delivery platforms;
2. Best practices, theories, and current trends in online, hybrid, and distance education, including instructional design principles;
3. Instructional technologies, multimedia tools, and methods used to create, edit, and deliver digital learning content;
4. Accessibility, compliance, and regulatory requirements for online learning, including ADA, copyright, and Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI), as well as emerging knowledge of generative AI in education;
Skills in: 5. Designing visually engaging, instructionally sound materials for digital learning environments;
6. Consulting with faculty and staff through active listening, customer service, and needs assessment;
7. Synthesizing information and translating instructional concepts into effective course content and learning experiences;
8. Providing constructive feedback, solving problems, and making informed decisions related to instructional design and educational technology;
Ability to: 9. Manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines effectively while working independently with minimal supervision; 10. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to design, develop, and adapt curriculum and instructional materials for online and hybrid delivery; 11. Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing, while building strong working relationships and providing high-quality support; 12. Develop and deliver training, workshops, and guidance on instructional technologies, online teaching practices, and the effective use of generative AI in instruction;
13. Provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.
