POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED

START DATE:

Fall 2026

Instruct courses in English Composition I & II, developmental integrated reading/writing, technical/business writing, literature, or other courses as assigned. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual-credit, blended, hyflex, and/or online courses. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining office hours, participating in professional development, serving on college committees, and working across departments to develop student communication, computation and critical thinking skills.

This position reports to the Division Chair of Language, Literature, & Communication.

NOTE:

This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:

Knowledge of: 1. Subject matter;
2. Professional development planning;
3. Curriculum development;
4. Trends in teaching/learning theory regarding college writing; 5. ADA standards as they apply to instruction;
Skills in: 5. Teaching at the college level;
6. Using technology in support of instruction;
7. Evaluating student performance;
8. Promoting and supporting related extra-curricular activities.
9. Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; 10. Advising students; 11. Participating in college committees; 12. Working across departments to develop student communication, computation, and problem-solving skills;
Ability to: 13. Support departmental goals, college values, and initiatives that promote student engagement and success; 14. Establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with colleagues, students, and community partners; 15. Provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips, e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure:
Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in rhetoric/composition, English, or other relevant academic discipline

Experience:

College-level teaching experience in composition; may consist of part-time teaching and/or teaching done while in graduate school

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

At least two (2) years of teaching experience at the secondary and/or postsecondary level; experience developing and teaching Internet classes, and experience in course design
