Responsibilities
Provide instruction in OTA program courses, including lecture and laboratory components, while developing, assessing, and maintaining curriculum in accordance with program and accreditation standards. Serve as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator by developing and maintaining fieldwork sites, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements, and collaborating with fieldwork educators and students to support successful clinical experiences. Support student recruitment, retention, advising, and success; participate in professional development, college committees, and community outreach;
and collaborate across departments to advance program and institutional goals. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned, which could include face‑to‑face and non‑traditional modalities or time frames such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This is a full‑time tenure‑track eligible faculty position and receives general direction from the Program Director, Occupational Therapy Assistant and exercises no supervision.
Criteria
- Knowledge of:
- OTA program planning, review, and accreditation requirements;
- Subject matter, instructional design and materials for OTA program courses;
- Curriculum design, development, and revision, in accordance with accreditation standards;
- The Texas Occupational Therapy Assistant Practice Act and Rules, including the relationship and role delineation of OTA practitioners;
- Student advising and support services;
- ADA standards as they apply to instruction;
- Ability to:
- Provide instruction for OTA courses in lecture, lab, laboratory, and clinical settings;
- Evaluate student knowledge, skills, and performance;
- Select and maintain appropriate fieldwork sites and partnerships;
- Prepare schedules and manage program resources, including material, financial, and human resources;
- Develop, assess, and continuously improve curriculum and program outcomes;
- Manage accreditation requirements and related reporting processes;
- Participate in professional development and maintain professional competence;
- Promote awareness of the OTA program through community engagement, recruitment, and retention activities;
- Advise students and support their academic and professional success;
- Support and participate in college activities, initiatives, and shared governance;
- Foster positive working relationships through teamwork, collaboration, collegiality, and effective communication with students, faculty, staff, and community partners;
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
- Utilize personal computers and other technology for communication, record‑keeping, instruction, and program management;
- Maintain reliable transportation to support regular travel to assigned clinical sites;
- Provide caring, high‑quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.
NOTE:
This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
Restricted:
Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.) some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Minimal Hazard/Exposure:
Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant educational program and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an educational or related field.
- Experience: Minimum three years’ clinical experience in Occupational Therapy.
- Special Requirements: Possession of, or ability to obtain licensure in the state of Texas as an OT or OTA within 60 days of hire date.
- Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an educational or related field.
- Experience: One‑year academic teaching experience.
