GENERAL POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
Teach courses in commercial music such as Applied Lessons, Theory, Songwriting, Sight‑Singing and Ear Training, Arranging and Composition, and American Music. May also include directing a commercial performing ensemble such as Jazz, Rock, Country, Contemporary Christian or Improvisation Ensembles, or teaching Music Business courses, such as Survey of Music Business, Concert Promotion, Venue and Talent Management, Music Marketing, or Music Publishing.
Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: active recruiting of Music Industry majors, performing in faculty ensemble, attending all departmental concerts both on and off campus, maintaining office hours, serving on college committees, promoting and supporting the department’s mission and goals, participating in professional development and faculty evaluations, and working across departments to develop student communication and problem‑solving skills.
Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include face‑to‑face and non‑traditional modalities or time frames, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This position reports to the Division Chair, Visual & Performing Arts.
NOTE:
This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
Music facilities consist of a 330‑seat and a 100‑seat performance hall, plus a 550‑seat, outdoor amphitheater (Bosque River Stage), 14 practice rooms, a state‑of‑the‑art digital recording studio, as well as faculty offices/studios and classrooms with up‑to‑date technology. The department is housed in the Ball Performing Arts Center and the Music and Theatre Arts Building. There are currently 6 full‑time and 3 adjunct instructors in the Music Industry Careers Department.
In addition to an active on‑campus concert schedule, Music Industry Careers faculty and ensembles perform throughout the Central Texas area. McLennan Community College is an All Steinway School.
