Job Title: Specialist Social Emotional Learning
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt/At-Will

Primary PurposeSupport the effective implementation of the district's social and emotional learning vision. Help develop, adapt, and execute SEL initiatives within the campus and support district and school staff in promoting students' social and emotional development through direct support, curriculum and assessment. Work in cooperation with school staff, parents, and community partners to coordinate internal and external resources to meet the needs of students and contribute to a positive school climate.
Qualifications- Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field
- Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field, preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate or equivalent certification in educational psychology or counseling, preferred
- Special Knowledge/
Skills:- Knowledge of current research and best practices in social emotional learning, counseling, and/or restorative practices
- Experience designing and delivering professional development
- Knowledgeable of comprehensive student discipline practices and de‑escalation strategies
- Ability to plan, organize, and work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and other staff
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in written form and orally
- Experience: Three years teaching experience, professional school counselor, or social worker experience required
- Support school-level implementation of SEL by working with school leadership teams to integrate SEL into school schedules and daily activities.
- Provide classroom-based support and modeling of social and emotional learning lessons to whole classes and small groups, in accordance with curriculum identified by the district.
- Provide individual/group guidance and social‑emotional support to students as needed, in coordination with campus administrators, school counselor(s), and other personnel.
- Coordinate with administrators, school counselor(s), school psychologist, teachers, and other personnel in identifying and providing services to targeted students with social‑emotional support needs.
- Coordinate and deliver professional development and resources on developing the SEL skills of students and adults, in accordance with overall district program goals.
- Attend district provided SEL and counselor professional development and training.
- Provide individualized coaching to support teachers in both developing their own social‑emotional capacity as well as implementing best practices to promote SEL.
- Encourage the development of SEL skills in students and adults through applied practice and opportunities to reflect in partners or small groups.
- Use data to promote continuous improvement of SEL program outcomes.
- Stay current on research and best practices in social‑emotional learning.
- Provide assistance as needed to decrease barriers to student social, emotional, and academic success.
- Develop educational workshops for parents and the community to build investment in SEL in Waco ISD.
- Coordinate with community agencies to assist families in accessing social services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent extended days. Administrative office environment, high pressure, fast pace, multiple deadlines and people intensive.
