Primary

Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate in‑person and distance or virtual instruction in the assigned core academic subject area to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI).
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • ESL Certification.
  • [Physical Education Teachers:
    Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate].
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in‑person, distance, and virtual learning that meet district curriculum program requirements and show written evidence of preparation, including accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional, learning strategies, materials, equipment, and technology reflecting an understanding of students’ learning styles and needs, and present subject matter following guidelines set by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Cooperate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to Individual Education Plans.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment and feedback related to student achievement through formal and informal methods.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the goals of the campus and school district.
  • Create an in‑person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to convene with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
  • Communicate with students or parents regularly via phone, video conference, email, or district‑approved website.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Supervisor Responsibilities
