General Position

Description:

The Teacher Assistant supports the daily operation of the Child Development Lab School by assisting with the implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities and providing a safe, nurturing environment for young children. This position works collaboratively with teachers, students, and families to support children's growth and development while serving as a model early childhood education setting for community college students participating in laboratory and observation experiences.

This position receives general supervision from the Facility Director and exercises no supervision.

Note: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

Selection criteria:

The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:

Knowledge of: 1. Early childhood development and age-appropriate learning practices;
2. Texas DFPS Minimum Standards and applicable childcare regulations;
3. National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards and best practices;
4. Child health, safety, nutrition, and wellness principles;
5. Positive behavior guidance and classroom management techniques;
6. Developmentally appropriate curriculum, learning environments, and child observation/documentation methods;

Skills in: 7. Working effectively with young children in an early childhood education setting;
8. Supporting classroom instruction, learning activities, and daily routines;
9. Building positive relationships and communicating effectively with children, families, students, colleagues, and community members; 10. Maintaining current CPR, First Aid, and emergency response procedures;

Ability to: 11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, families, students, coworkers, and community members; 13. Model appropriate teaching, interaction, and guidance strategies for lab students and teacher aides; 14. Support a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities; 15. Exercise sound judgment, problem-solving, decision-making, adaptability, professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail in classroom situations;

16. Provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.

Working conditions:

Restricted-sustained posture, for prolonged periods; light lifting, some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Unpleasant exposure minor hazard-moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors are present. There is occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency and severity are limited.
