Literacy Workshop Instructor (PK-2)
Provide developmentally appropriate literacy enrichment instruction for prekindergarten and kindergarten students during Cadet Enrichment Hour. The PK2 Literacy Workshop Instructor will support early language, listening, speaking, phonological awareness, print awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and beginning reading and writing skills through engaging, hands-on, and age-appropriate activities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or coursework in early childhood education, reading, child development, or related field preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Early Childhood, EC6, Reading, or related area preferred
- Must meet district background check and employment clearance requirements
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Knowledge of early childhood literacy development
- Ability to work effectively with elementary students
- Ability to lead small-group and whole-group literacy activities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use songs, stories, movement, visuals, manipulatives, and play-based activities to support literacy
- Ability to manage young children in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment
- Knowledge of age-appropriate classroom routines and positive behavior supports
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Plan and provide engaging literacy workshop activities for elementary students
- Support early literacy skills, including letter recognition, letter sounds, phonological awareness, vocabulary development, listening comprehension, oral language, print concepts, and emergent writing
- Use read-alouds, storytelling, songs, rhymes, games, hands-on materials, movement, and creative activities to build student interest in reading and language
- Provide instruction that is developmentally appropriate for young learners and responsive to student needs
- Reinforce positive literacy habits, including listening to stories, handling books appropriately, participating in discussions, and expressing ideas
- Encourage student curiosity, confidence, communication, and participation
- Adapt activities to support different learning levels, language needs, and attention spans
- Supervise students at all times during assigned enrichment sessions
- Follow campus procedures for attendance, student movement, dismissal, emergencies, and behavior support
- Use safe practices when leading activities involving food, physical movement, technology, tools, science materials, art supplies, or small equipment
- Immediately report student injuries, safety concerns, discipline concerns, or unusual incidents to the campus administrator or designee
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students
- Establish clear expectations for student behavior, participation, and care of materials
- Maintain an organized instructional space before, during, and after each session
- Ensure district materials, technology, supplies, and equipment are used responsibly
- Communicate supply needs or program concerns to the campus designee in a timely manner
- Participate in orientation, training, or planning meetings as required by the district
- Work cooperatively with campus staff, teachers, administrators, volunteers, and other enrichment instructors
- Represent the district and the Cadet Enrichment Hour program in a professional and positive manner
- Protect the confidentiality of student information
- Follow all district policies, campus procedures, and applicable state and federal laws

Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals. - Posture:
Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting. - Motion:
Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. - Lifting:
Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). - Environment:
Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours. - Attendance:
Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. - Mental Demands:
Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
