Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance to school assigned, including counseling services. Provide a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development. Provide support services and activities, other than administrative, to ensure students access to the full range of programs available to them. The Career Counselor will provide students the necessary support services and activities required for them to be successful in the attainment of academic and occupational competencies necessary for employment and/or post‑secondary training.
Qualifications- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching credential
- School Counselor Certification
- Evidence of background in Career and Technical Education
- Evidence of leadership skills, including effective interpersonal skills
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral
- Willingness to be accountable for special population enrollment in career and technology education programs
- Craft a personalized academic and career plan for each student on campus that encompasses specific courses students will take to meet their chosen career‑paths or post‑secondary education.
- Mentor students to model and effectively address concerns and grievances and how to better advocate for their own needs.
- Coordinate student and course scheduling process.
- Coordinate dual credit process for enrolled students.
- Oversee online courses to ensure student completion and credit.
- Coordinate Grade books and communication between Academy and home campus. Ensure all timelines for progress reports and report cards are met.
- Actively recruit students, including traditionally underrepresented groups, into career and technical education programs. Assist in recruiting process as required by Assistant Director.
- Assist in recruiting events as required by Assistant Director. Meet with students regularly to assist with high school and post high school career and educational plans.
- Monitor supplementary career and technology education services to students who are members of special populations including individuals with disabilities in respect to curriculum modification and equipment modification.
- Ensure that the school district provides equal access to a full range of career and technology education programs for all students who are members of special populations.
- Confer regularly with assigned staff to discuss counseling and instructional services designed to facilitate the transition from school to post‑school employment and career opportunities.
- Define the program and fiscal needs of special populations in the budget development process, ensuring that fiscal resources address the needs mandated by Texas Education Agency guidelines.
- Actively support guidance, counseling, and career development activities conducted by professionally trained counselors, teachers, community members, and others who are associated with the provision of such special services including, but not limited to mentoring, seminars, professional engagements and more.
- Assist in training for career and technology education teachers.
- Involve counselors and instructional staff to provide for students who are members of special populations and their parents at least one year before the students enter vocational education such information as the opportunities available in career and technology education and the requirements for eligibility for enrollment in such programs.
- Coordinate the follow‑up reports of the career and technology education students as related to coherent sequence of courses, tech prep, placement files, post‑secondary training, military and/or careers.
