DESCRIPTION:
The Supplemental Instruction Specialist coordinates the College's Supplemental Instruction (SI) program by recruiting, training, supervising, and supporting SI Leaders while collaborating with faculty and Academic Support & Tutoring staff to provide high-quality, course-specific academic support. This position promotes student learning and success by evaluating program effectiveness, implementing continuous improvements, and ensuring services align with institutional goals and student needs. This position receives general direction from the Coordinator of Academic Support & Tutoring and exercises support staff supervision.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: 1. Supplemental instruction, tutoring, peer-assisted learning, and other evidence-based academic support strategies that promote student success and persistence;
2. Learning theories, study strategies, metacognition, and student engagement techniques that support diverse learners;
3. Developmental education, integrated reading and writing, and academic support strategies for students with varying levels of academic preparedness;
4. Assessment methods, program evaluation, data collection, and continuous improvement practices to measure program effectiveness and student outcomes;
5. Instructional technologies, learning management systems (LMS), virtual learning platforms, and digital resources that support face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction;
6. Accessibility standards, inclusive teaching practices, and student support services that foster equitable learning environments; Skills in: 7. Developing, coordinating, and facilitating supplemental instruction sessions, workshops, and academic success programming;
8. Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Learning Management Systems, video conferencing platforms, and other educational technologies to support instruction and program operations;
9. Maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, tracking student participation, and analyzing data to support assessment and decision-making; 10. Communicating effectively through verbal, written, and digital formats with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners; 11. Public speaking, group facilitation, presentation delivery, and training peer leaders or student employees; 12. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and adapting instructional strategies to meet changing student and program needs;
Ability to: 13. Establish collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, peer leaders, and students to support student learning and academic achievement.; 14. Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects, schedules, and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail; 15. Work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as a collaborative member of a team; 16. Interpret and apply institutional policies, procedures, and program guidelines while exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality;
17. Model professionalism, student-centered service, Supplemental Instruction best practices, and the college's commitment to inclusive excellence and student success; 18. Provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.
