Position: Assistant Professor, Government (Tenure Eligible)

POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED

START DATE:

Fall 2027

Instruct courses in Federal and Texas Government. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned including face-to-face and non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual-credit, blended, and/or online courses. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining office hours, participating in professional development, and working across departments to develop student communication and critical thinking skills. This position reports to the Division Chair of Social & Behavioral Sciences.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Knowledge of
  • 1. Subject matter;

  • 4. Current trends in teaching/learning theory as it applies to government;
  • 5. ADA standards as they apply to instruction;

  • 5. Teaching at the postsecondary level;
  • 6. Developing and instructing courses in an online format;

  • 7. Use technology in support of classroom instruction;
  • 8. Evaluate student performance;
  • 9. Promote and support related extra-curricular activities;
  • 10. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
  • 11. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • 12. Participate in college committees.
  • 13. Work across departments to develop student communication and problem-solving skills;
  • 14. Provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical effort-restricted; sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs), some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Work environment-minimal hazard/exposure; standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in government or a closely related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Doctoral degree in Political Science or closely related discipline from an accredited college or university

Experience:

At least one year of experience teaching government or political science courses at the college level.
