Job Description
The Mechanical Engineering Associate Manager reports to the Senior Manager of Aerospace Engineering and oversees day‑to‑day operations of a Mechanical Engineering team of approximately eight members. The team supports design and integration of aircraft system upgrades and structural modifications, including design and liaison of primary and secondary aircraft structures using military and commercial design standards, customer specifications, and system requirement documents in 3D CAD.
The Associate Manager assigns work, develops manpower estimates, tracks project and engineering status, supports project bids, oversees employee training and performance reviews, and manages overhead budgets. The role ensures adherence to company mechanical design processes, leads periodic reviews, champions continuous improvement, and upholds the highest ethical standards across the organization.
- Obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
- Plan, schedule, and budget tasks for the Mechanical Engineering Team.
- Design and liaison of aircraft systems and structures using military and commercial design standards, customer specifications, and system requirements in 3D CAD.
- Provide liaison to production and manufacturing for interpretation of engineering design and drawings.
- Set the highest ethical standards for self and others.
- Work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering with at least 6 years of mechanical systems design experience; or a graduate degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Systems Engineering with at least 4 years of related experience; or the equivalent of 10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical design principles of aircraft structure and components.
- Minimum 2 years of experience modifying aircraft primary and secondary structure.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with electronic equipment and antenna installations.
- Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to coach, train, motivate, and manage technical personnel.
- Sound knowledge of engineering theory, design criteria, and complex activities.
- Ability to write concise reports of findings.
- Ability to manage complex activities and meet program objectives within contract cost and schedule requirements.
- Ability to motivate others, listen effectively, pay attention to detail, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Active Secret security clearance.
