Auditor Accountant
Overview
Field auditor performs highly complex senior-level auditing work. Duties include conducting audits, complaint investigations, inspections, education initiatives, and marketing practices. The role examines records of corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietors to ensure legal and regulatory compliance and establish tax and fee liabilities. The auditor works under limited supervision of the Regional Audit Manager, using initiative and independent judgment.
Responsibilities- Auditing (60%) – Conduct assigned tax, fee, and regulatory audits in a timely manner with minimal errors, following audit procedures, ensuring proper documentation of discrepancies, and assessing bonding liability and licensing qualifications.
- Inspections/Investigations (20%) – Develop administrative cases for cash and credit law, assist senior staff with complex cases, aid in complaint-based investigations, perform physical inspections for Alcoholic Beverage Code compliance, and prepare statements or affidavits as needed.
- Marketing Practices & Education Initiatives (10%) – Handle routine marketing inquiries, interpret and apply marketing advisories, resolve marketing issues for large festivals, and support education initiatives with industry stakeholders and community organizations.
- Preparation of Statistical Reports, Time Management, & Other Duties (5%) – Document daily, weekly, and monthly reports, assist in temporary permit processing, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Property Management/Seized Property (5%) – Tag, inventory, and account for agency assets, safeguard and dispose of seized property per evidence procedures, and perform other assigned duties.
- Education – Either:
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management, or marketing with at least 12 hours of accounting, auditing, and finance coursework (6 hours in accounting), plus proof of transcript. - Option 2:
Associate’s degree in a business-related field with at least 9 hours of accounting, auditing, or finance coursework (6 hours in accounting) and two years of full-time experience in accounting, auditing, or extensive financial investigations.

- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a clear driving record and a vehicle capable of transporting two individuals. Out-of-state applicants must obtain a Class C Texas driver’s license within six weeks of acceptance.
- Must complete the New Auditors Training Program within the first year of employment and be willing to complete on- and off-site training as required, including the New Auditor’s Academy.
- Travel may be limited and some assignments may be conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams or other platforms.
- Work experience in auditing or investigations.
- During the probationary and training period, telework may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
- Knowledge
- Accounting and auditing methods and systems; generally accepted auditing standards; computer technology principles and automated systems.
- Business practices and office procedures for internal and external customers.
- Tax law and audit procedures.
- General computer literacy and specific proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

- Applicable certifications supported: CPA, CFA, CMA, CIA, CISA, CFE. Additional specialty certifications may be required.
The position functions in a standard office environment. Candidates must move around the office to access filing cabinets and office equipment and be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Work requires communication via phone, computer, in person, and electronic media, and repetitive keyboard use at a workstation. The role expects the ability to work with overlapping deadlines and may involve situational or hybrid telework after the initial probationary period, requiring a secure workspace with reliable internet and timely availability for virtual meetings.
