Provides strategic leadership and oversight of the university’s investment accounting and reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with U.S. GAAP, donor requirements, and higher education regulations. Manages accounting, valuation, and reporting of complex investment portfolios, including endowments and split‑interest agreements, while maintaining strong internal controls and fiduciary standards. Serves as a liaison with stakeholders, external managers, and auditors.
QualificationsA bachelor's degree, three years of relevant experience, and a CPA license are required. A master's degree and five years of relevant experience are preferred.
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including experience with complex investment vehicles and endowment accounting
- Exceptional analytical ability with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform all required tasks effectively, both independently and collaboratively
- Capacity to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to manage sensitive information with strict confidentiality
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when navigating complex or sensitive situations with diverse stakeholders
- Prior experience in nonprofit, college, or university environments preferred
- Ability to critically evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Prepare and coordinate, review and approve monthly market value adjustments to sub‑fund reports, investment manager reports, bank trust statements, stock, bond, and real estate holdings
- Direct the investment accounting and reporting functions, maintain close collaboration with the Investment Office, oversee preparation of investment journal entries and receipts, and review or prepare investment allocation reports
- Direct the accounting for the university’s non‑operating funds, including preparation and review of journal entries and oversight of investment reporting (monthly endowment balances, analyses and changes, annuity trial balance, restricted non‑scholarship trial balance reports)
- Oversee calculation and recording of endowment and investment earnings for budgeting and planning; maintain endowment model and dividend calculations; project distributions for endowment and endowed chair accounts; coordinate account listings and communicate projections to the Budget Office, Financial Aid, Provost, and academic business offices
- Conduct review, analysis, reconciliation and correction of transactions and balances in the non‑operating accounts
- Oversee and/or prepare audit work papers and financial statement footnotes for endowment and investments; coordinate investment accounting matters with external auditors
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support the institution’s mission
- Maintain compliance with university policies and maintain regular punctual attendance
