Seeking a WIC Certifying Authority

Are you passionate about promoting health and nutrition in your community? The City of Waco is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable WIC Certifying Authority to join our team in making a meaningful impact on the lives of families seeking nutritional support. In this key role, you will provide direct client care to our WIC clients, conducting interviews and assessments to determine eligibility and create individualized nutrition care plans.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics (e.g., Nutritional Science, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in other fields may be considered with a minimum of 12 semester hours of Food and Nutrition and 6 semesters of Science
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • WIC Certified Training required within first year of hire if the degree held is not directly related to nutrition.
Position Overview

Under basic supervision, reviews applications and certifies applicants for WIC eligibility; provides counseling, education and assessment for infants, children, and pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women clients for the Public Health District (PHD).

Essential Functions
  • Provides direct client care for PHD clients, including interviewing and assessing nutritional status to determine client’s WIC eligibility and nutrition care plan; performs anthropometric and biochemical measurements; provides nutrition education and outreach programs and works with community to increase public awareness of proper nutrition; provides information, counseling, and medical case management according to specific program and physician guidelines.
  • Operates a City vehicle to travel to clinics, community sites, outreach locations, and partner agencies to provide direct client care for PHD clients.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information.
