Peer Support Specialist II Certified

Under the general supervision of the Program Manager, the Peer Specialist performs assigned peer support activities in the Reintegration Program. The worker provides recovery‑oriented peer services to adult inmates at the McLennan County Jail and in the community, using their own recovery experience to engage and inspire hope among mental health consumers and those with substance use disorders.

• Provides recovery‑oriented peer services.
• Provides coordination, facilitation, referral, advocacy, and education services.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation.
• Assists with other duties as required or assigned.

EXPERIENCE

The Peer Specialist must have been treated in a behavioral health system for at least one (1) year and demonstrate a level of stability and recovery of a minimum of 3 years, enabling participation in the treatment and recovery of other mental health consumers.

EDUCATION

This position requires graduation from a standard high school or completion of a GED.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the Peer Specialist Code of Ethics (developed by Via Hope) is essential, guiding all aspects of peer services.
• Skilled in engaging mental health consumers to participate in and take charge of their own recovery, using personal recovery experiences to create hope and open possible recovery pathways.
• Works effectively as a member of the recovery team and with individuals served by the IC program as well as staff.
• Makes sure general physical and mental health permits performance of job duties and maintains regular attendance per center policies.
• Performs essential tasks, including CPR, First Aid and PMAB certification, unaided or with reasonable accommodation.
• Basic computer skills required; able to travel locally 35% of the time.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Assists with daily living skills; has rehabilitation/skills training.

Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday–Friday (flexible)

Salary: $20,800 annually ($10.0000 hourly)
