Position Overview

The City of Waco Seeks

The City of Waco is seeking a collaborative Public Health Education Specialist to build community partnerships, oversee coalition activities, and provide outreach to at-risk and underserved populations. This position will also develop and deliver health education programs that support community health initiatives. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Business, Public Administration, or a related field and 1 year experience in developing, coordinating, implementing, or delivering educational or training programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
Preferred
  • CHES – Certified Health Education
Essential Functions
  • Plans and presents community outreach programs to promote health education, risk reduction and healthy behaviors; informs community of services available through Public Health District (PHD) and other community resources; prepares and delivers presentations on assigned health topics.
  • Researches health education issues; prepares educational materials; coordinates and presents training and public education programs; collects, compiles and maintains data on PHD health education activities.
  • Prepares grant proposals and updates public access websites, assists with training PHD staff.
  • Position assigned to Maternal & Child Health:
  • Provides leadership, coordination of efforts, and facilitation of the Healthy Women & Children Coalition. Works with Healthy Women and Children Coalition partners to develop annual goals and objectives using evidence‑based public health frameworks and within the scope of available resources and funding.
  • Fosters and develops new relationships with community partners to maximize participation and engagement in meetings and implementation of Healthy Women and Children Coalition strategies.
  • Works with coalition steering committee and Health District leadership to guide the direction of the coalition and move coalition initiatives toward sustainability. Compiles data and monthly/quarterly reports describing coalition efforts and other program deliverables.
  • Operates a personal or city vehicle to travel to clinics, community sites, outreach locations, and partner agencies to provide community public health outreach and education throughout Waco‑McLennan County.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information.
