The Data Engineer I position builds, monitors, and supports data pipelines that move and transform data across on‑premise and cloud‑based systems.
This role is ideal for a self‑starter eager to learn the foundations of data engineering and contribute to data workflows that power analytics, reporting, and business operations.
The Data Engineer I works closely with senior engineers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, efficient, and well‑documented data pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITYAssist in the development and maintenance of data pipelines that extract, transform, and load (ETL/ELT) data from diverse sources into reporting and analytical environments.
Support scheduled and event‑driven pipeline operations using tools such as Azure Data Factory and/or Databricks.
Participate in the testing, validation, and documentation of pipeline logic and data flows.
Monitor data jobs and assist with troubleshooting failed runs or unexpected results.
Work with data analysts and developers to understand requirements and build repeatable, scalable data ingestion processes.
Help identify opportunities for optimization and automation of routine data movement tasks.
Maintain documentation of data workflows, job logic, and transformation rules for continuity and support.
Learn and apply best practices for secure, reliable, and well‑governed data delivery.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:
At least one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field, and minimal experience in data quality analysis or a similar role.
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field, and foundational experience in data quality analysis or a similar role.
Skills:
Good experience with T‑SQL for query development.
Familiarity with database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Postgre
SQL, Synapse, or Databricks.
Understanding of relational data modeling concepts and data warehouse standards.
Experience building views, stored procedures, and functions.
Comfortable working with large datasets and optimizing query performance.
Experience with Git, version control and basic scripting (Python preferred).
Soft Skills:Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical team members.
Comfortable working collaboratively and documenting work for others.
Preferred Qualifications:Internship or project experience in data engineering, analytics, or cloud development.
Exposure to data quality or data governance principles.
Knowledge of Microsoft Synapse, Azure SQL Database, or Data Lake is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSUse of office equipment over six (6) hours per day.
Extended periods of sitting and concentration.
Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONSOccasional long, irregular hours.
Provide after‑hours problem resolution when required.
Occasional travel by auto or other public transportation.
Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
