Position Type:

Reports To:

Custodian Supervisor. Pay Grade: 300. Date Posted: 1/30/2023.

Primary Purpose

To maintain a clean and safe working environment where teachers can teach and students can learn.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:

    High school diploma or GED certificate (preferred).
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Ability to operate cleaning equipment and properly handle cleaning supplies.
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Experience:

    None.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Completes routine cleaning tasks as listed on daily work schedule; performs tasks such as cleaning windows, chalkboards, and fixtures as needed.
  • Accepts changes of assignment on a temporary or permanent basis at the request of the head custodian and/or principal.
  • Assists in preparations for meetings, dances, and other school events as directed.
  • Renders special services for students, staff, and patrons as directed by principal or supervisor of custodial operation.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with others in a positive, productive manner.
  • Inspects and maintains fire extinguishers on a monthly basis.
  • Secures windows, doors, cuts off lights, and sets alarms when assigned work is completed.
  • Assumes responsibility for materials, supplies, and equipment needed for completion of assigned custodial tasks and replaces supplies used in classrooms and restrooms (e.g., toilet tissue, paper towels).
  • Assists with various other projects as requested by head custodian and/or principal (e.g., watering and weeding flowerbeds, picking up trash around building, trimming hedges and shrubs).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used

Buffer, wet and dry vacuums, mops, brooms, and any other equipment associated with custodial trade.

Working Conditions

Tobacco free. Requires continuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, bending, pushing and pulling, grasping, squeezing, twisting, reaching (including overhead), and ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures, inclement weather, with chemicals, dust, and slippery or uneven surfaces.

Mental/Physical Demands

Maintain emotional control under stress. Face frequent interruptions. Handle people-intensive interactions.
