The Senior Manager, Facilities and Exhibits is a hands‑on leader responsible for the strategic oversight, preservation, maintenance, and security of the museum’s physical spaces and exhibition experiences. This role oversees all aspects of facility maintenance, restoration, and construction, while also guiding the fabrication, installation, and upkeep of exhibits. The position resolves matters on behalf of senior management and has the authority to make decisions without the direction from the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities Facilities Management· Oversee daily operations, maintenance, and long‑term planning for all museum buildings, grounds, vehicles, and infrastructure.
· Implement processes to track building systems maintenance and repair, ensuring timely response and documentation.
· Lead a team of janitorial and maintenance staff and contractors, ensuring high standards of safety, cleanliness, and functionality.
· Plan and execute facilities‑related projects, including renovations, repairs, and new construction, using project management best practices and collaborating across departments to align timelines, resources, and visitor impact.
· Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including ADA, State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), OSHA, and fire safety codes.
· Coordinate emergency preparedness, building security, and risk management protocols.
Exhibit Development & Maintenance· Collaborate with exhibit team to fabricate, install, and maintain permanent and temporary exhibitions.
· Manage exhibit fabrication, lighting, AV integration, and interactive components, ensuring accessibility and durability.
· Oversee exhibit maintenance schedules, repairs, and updates to ensure optimal visitor experience.
Strategic Leadership· Contribute to institutional planning and cross‑departmental initiatives that enhance historic preservation, visitor experience, and operational efficiency.
· Champion sustainability, accessibility, and inclusion in all facilities and exhibit projects.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that support long‑term stewardship of museum assets.
· Stay informed about advancements in facility management, technology, and preservation practices. Participate in ongoing training and skill‑building relevant to role and department goals.
Project & Budget Management· Plan and execute capital improvement, preservation, and renovation projects and new construction, from concept through completion.
· Prepare annual facility budgets, forecasts, and cost‑control strategies.
· Negotiate vendor contracts and monitor service quality.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications· BS or AAS degree in Facilities Management, Construction Science, Construction Management or related field desired and a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in facility/exhibit management. Commensurate experience without a degree considered. Preference given to experience in a historic property, museum, or cultural institution.
· Proficiency in CMMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and facility management software.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams, budgets, and multiple complex projects.
· Strong knowledge of building systems, construction processes, materials, and exhibit fabrication techniques.
· Commitment to safety, cleanliness, accessibility, sustainability, and inclusive design.
· Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
· Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) is a plus.
