Basin Climbing & Fitness is seeking a Head Routesetterto leadthe most important parts of our business: the climbing experience on the wall.
Located in the Greater Waco area, Basin is the region's only indoor climbing gym and serves a growing community of recreational climbers,with a combination of top rope and lead routes, as well as an entire bouldering mezzanine. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys building programs, developing people, and creating exceptional climbing experiences.
You'lloversee allroutesettingoperationsandlead a team of assistant setters.
The Head Routesetteris responsible forthe quality, safety, creativity, and strategic direction ofroutesetting, and teaching other setters.
You'llwork closely with gym leadership whilemaintainingownership of your department's day-to-day operations, staff development,setting cadence,and quality.
- Lead allroutesettingstrategy, planning, quality control, and safety oversight
- Design and set boulders, top rope routes, and lead routes across all ability levels
- Create a balanced climbing experience across grades and movement styles
- Manage route rotations and reset schedules
- Recruit, train, mentor, and lead assistantroutesetters
- Oversee hold inventory, equipment, androutesettingbudgets
- Maintain industry safety standards and best practices
- Lead setting efforts for competitions, leagues, and special events
- Effectively set and forerun V8 and 5.13 climbs
- Manage schedules, staffing plans, and departmental budgets
- Work collaboratively with gym leadership, front desk staff, marketing, and facility operations
- Support clinics, camps, competitions, and community events
- Maintain operational systems, documentation, and standards
- Help shape the long-term vision of climbing at Basin
Required
- 3+ years of commercialroutesettingexperience
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to safely work at height
- Ability to effectively set and forerun V8 and 5.13 climbs
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Work-at-height certification
- Experience leading teams and developing setting staff
- $40,000–$50,000 salary, based on experience
