Responsible for the maintenance of district's highways and facilities in accordance with Department standards. Reports directly to the District Engineer. Manages professional, technical and/or administrative employees. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties
  • Coordinates with local, city, state and federal agencies regarding district maintenance matters
  • Develops and monitors maintenance budget.
  • Oversees the district maintenance operation and coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.
  • Recommends major maintenance and betterment programs to the Director of Transportation Planning and Development

  • Responsible for emergency operations
  • Responsible for the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
  • Responsible for the execution of municipal maintenance agreements and various other agreements such as multiple use agreements, filming on right-of-way agreements, agricultural use agreements.
  • Responsible for utility and driveway, overweight/oversize permits.
  • Serves as a consultant to staff engineers regarding maintenance operations as they relate to administration, programming, planning, design, construction and right-of-way in order to coordinate district operations.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS

Experience
  • 7 years of experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Tx Licensed Prof Engineer*
  • Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
