The Spiritual Life Ministerassists the Director of Spiritual Life in sharing the Good News to Methodist Children's Home residents, beneficiaries, staff, supporters and volunteers inorder to foster MCH's nurturing, Christian community. This staff member uses personal skills, and spiritual gifts to achieve the vision of the Spiritual Life program and build effective relationships throughout the MCH ministry in order to proclaim the Christian Gospel.
This person will be directly supervised by the Director of Spiritual Life. The Spiritual Life Minister must maintain a healthy value system,including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission andcore values.
- Assist the Director of Spiritual Life in planning and leading weekly worship services and other special events related to the Spiritual Life program.
- Participate in Spiritual Life worship services and events that maximize personal skills and gifts while supporting the overall success of the Spiritual Life Department.
- Accompany and supervise youth on mission trips or summer camps.
- Assist with preparation for all Spiritual Life worship services and events.
- Assist in supervising student interns and/or volunteers as assigned by the Director of Spiritual Life.
- Discover opportunities to further improve the Spiritual Life resources offered to those served by MCH and pastoral care to its staff and volunteers.
- Provide insight and service in any area of need through the Spiritual Life program.
- Ensure Harrell Memorial Chapel and Mulkey Religious Education Center are kept clean, orderly and ready for each scheduled service or activity.
- Participate in a variety of fundraising and public relations activities that advance the MCH mission as directed by the Director of Spiritual Life and/or Vice President for Programs.
The Spiritual Life Minister is considered a professional position and may require more than the normal 40-hour workweek. The work schedule will be determinedaccording to programming needs. This position involves work on Sundays and inthe evenings. An automobile for in town and out of town travel is required.
Mileage reimbursement is provided for use of personal automobile for approvedbusiness purposes. Atechnology stipend is provided to support the communication requirements ofthis position.
A Bachelor's Degree from a fully-accredited college or university is required. A Master of Divinity Degree or comparable one in an area of Christian Education is strongly preferred.
TRAININGTraining hours must be completed annually to comply with licensing and accreditation standards and MCH policy. The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth. Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.
OTHERThis person must balance a fast-paced work environment and, at times, stop in the middle of projects to interact with guestsor solve complex issues. The Methodist Children's Home Spiritual Life programwelcomes ministers from various denominational backgrounds who have an expertise in youth ministry. The primary purpose of the Spiritual Life program is to express the Gospel of Jesus Christin a way that is best received by the young people in our care and staff.
At no time should programs, views orresources contradict the established traditions of the United Methodist Churchand/or accepted practices as set forth in the Book of Discipline. The Spiritual Life Minister must have a high level of accountability in regard to work ethic, attendance, critical thinking abilities and relationship building.
The Spiritual Life Minister must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid
Texas Driver's License, an excellent driving record that meets the standards
set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no
criminal history and acceptable references.
