Job Summary
Provides visual and audible observation of assigned patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and unit manager. Full‑ and part‑time positions, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, rotating weekends and holidays. Pay $15.00 per hour.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Visually and audibly monitor the assigned patient's condition and behavior at all times.
- Complete observation reports at established intervals.
- Takes initiative in compassionately rendering service or responding to needs, interacting hospitably, cheerfully, and supportively with staff, patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Remain at the bedside of the assigned patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
- Verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at‑risk behaviors.
- Seek help or advice when the patient appears to be in medical distress or poses a threat, and quickly alert assigned medical professionals.
- Participate in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Ensure the patient environment is safe; report hazards and remove visible hazards as appropriate.
- Assist in calming and/or reorienting the patient in cases of agitation or confusion.
- Assist with maintaining the patient's room safe and orderly.
- Accompany patient when diagnostic testing is required.
- Summon nursing staff immediately if the patient requires assistance, control, or other nursing interventions, or exhibits unusual behavior or verbalizations.
- Participate in hand‑off of pertinent information about the assigned patient when arriving on unit and upon completing shift assignment. Arrange coverage around meal break times in coordination with the nurse.
- Assist patient with ordering dietary tray, setting up the meal tray, basic positioning, and patient wheelchair rides or ambulation when safe.
- Respond rapidly and thoroughly to emergencies, special needs, and other urgent situations.
- Accept suggestions and direction from supervisors and hospital staff.
- Demonstrate knowledge of department policies and procedures, honoring attendance, break, behavior, dress, personal hygiene, and safety codes.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all regulatory requirements.
- Participate in department and hospital education programs.
- Assist other associates as necessary and respond to direction given.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
- Current CPR AED or Basic Life Support (BLS‑HCP) certification required within 30 days of hire, if required at the facility.
- Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods, including bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
