Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a licensed registered nurse with advanced specialized training in the administration of anesthesia. The CRNA administers, monitors, and adjusts anesthetic doses to individual patients, from neonatal through geriatrics, during surgery and other procedures. Limited to select locations based on unique workplace dynamics.

Essential functions of the role include interpreting physician's pre-anesthetic evaluation and lab data, reviewing health history, performing pre-induction examination, inducing and maintaining general anesthesia, performing regional anesthesia, monitoring life support functions, managing fluid, blood and electrolyte loss and replacement, documenting all pertinent events during the procedure, terminating anesthesia in a timely fashion, and following the post-anesthetic course.

Key success factors include obtaining 40 CEUs every two years, maintaining certification and registration, keeping informed of current trends and updated procedures, understanding current concepts of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, demonstrating ability to accept and initiate change, demonstrating ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others, functioning as part of a health care/anesthesia team, and ability to work variable hours.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, less than 1 year of experience, and certification/license/registration as a Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) ACLS and Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
