Quality Auditor

Job Summary

The Quality Auditor is responsible for ensuring that transformers and related manufacturing processes comply with internal quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, ANSI, ISO). This role conducts product, process, and system audits throughout the manufacturing lifecycle—from raw material receipt through final testing and shipment—to ensure consistent product quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions &

Key Responsibilities
  • Product & Process Auditing
  • Perform in-process and final audits on oil-filled power and distribution transformers.
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Audit critical manufacturing stages including:
  • Core stacking and clamping
  • Coil winding and insulation
  • Core-coil assembly
  • Tank fabrication and welding
  • Vacuum drying and oil filling
  • Bushing installation
  • Final assembly and testing
  • Inspect transformer accessories (radiators, conservators, bushings, protection devices).
  • Testing & Compliance Verification
  • Witness and verify routine, type, and special tests in accordance with IEC/IEEE standards.
  • Review and validate test reports Vs engineering specs (ratio test, resistance, impedance, induced/withstand voltage, partial discharge, oil BDV, etc.).
  • Ensure calibration status of measuring and testing equipment.
  • Confirm traceability of materials and components.
  • Supplier & Incoming Material Audits
  • Audit incoming materials including CRGO steel, copper conductors, insulation materials, transformer oil, and fabricated tanks.
  • Review supplier quality documentation and certificates of conformity.
  • Participate in supplier audits when required.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare audit reports detailing findings, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
  • Track and verify closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Maintain audit records in accordance with ISO 9001 or other applicable QMS standards.
  • Support customer and third-party audits.
  • Quality System & Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct internal quality management system audits.
  • Identify trends and recurring quality issues.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) activities (5 Why, Fishbone, FMEA, etc.).
  • Support implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards during audits.
  • Verify compliance with environmental and oil-handling procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and quality documentation tools.
  • Experience in quality auditing within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with oil-filled transformer construction and testing (desired).
Environment/Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department in the Office and Factory Floor.
  • Office (10%) and manufacturing environment (90%).
  • Regular interaction with production areas
  • Constant presence on the production floor.
  • Ability to lift moderate weights and climb ladders when required.
  • Exposure to industrial environment including noise and oil handling areas.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
Required to be authorized to work lawfully in the US.

Travel
  • Domestic travel (approximately ˜5%)

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 2:30pm. However, depending on workload there may be occasionally longer days, and occasional weekends as needed. Employees are expected to work the hours necessary to timely and satisfactorily complete all necessary work tasks.
