What We Are Looking For
The Wright Group in the Department of Biology at Baylor University is seeking an Associate Research Scientist in Microbial Omics with expertise and independent research in proteomics and/or metabolomics of microbiomes or microbes. The position will lead projects within the group, develop independent research projects and seek extramural funding, and play a vital role in ensuring efficient and successful outcomes by managing selected lab duties.
The Wright Lab seeks an individual with cutting‑edge experience in microbial or microbiome proteomics or metabolomics. The successful applicant will facilitate method development, deployment, and data analysis, help develop new research proposals, and provide day‑to‑day management of laboratory operations.
Responsibilities- Participate in the leadership of ongoing research projects
- Mentor postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students
- Develop new research projects at the cutting edge of proteomics and metabolomics of microbiomes
- Participate in existing collaborations and develop new internal and external collaborations for the Wright Group
- Write proposals for extramural funding as Co‑I, Co‑PI, or PI
- Provide training to Wright Group researchers
- Ensure safe laboratory operations and compliance with Baylor EH&S
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation and serve as liaison for repairs, service, and new installations
- Work with the Wright Group Research Coordinator to assure the lab maintains necessary items
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
A Ph.D. is required, with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience and a preference for three years of experience. The degree should be in a discipline relevant to the position.
- Experience in an academic or similar lab setting, preferably in chemical biology, proteomics, and/or microbiology
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Familiarity with safety protocols, chemical hygiene plans, and lab instrumentation
- Student mentoring experience
