Job Summary
A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Barista, you are an integral member of our café team. You greet customers cheerfully, answer questions, and help them find the right beverages and café items. You also maintain the café’s attractive presentation, manage inventory by unpacking deliveries and tidying the bake case and dining area, and operate the registers efficiently to deliver professional service.

- Use registers, computers, tablets, and other technology confidently and efficiently.
- Develop strong merchandising skills to keep the café presentation clean and appealing.
- Maintain visual merchandising for counter and floor fixtures.
- Operate a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
- Support receiving, unpacking, and accurate stocking of deliveries.
- Prepare food and drinks accurately, using recipes, product spec sheets, and colleague guidance.
- Perform daily and weekly cleaning tasks to keep café cleanliness.
- Follow FIFO practices and date products consistently and correctly.
- Support the bookfloor team when needed.
- Understand loss prevention procedures, de‑escalation techniques, identify theft, and seek help for problematic behaviors.
- Build café knowledge of beverages, bakery, savory options, and gifts.
- Use knowledge to maintain engaging presentation.
- Promote key sales objectives like LTO items and café promotions.
- Make effective food and beverage customization recommendations to customers.
- Expand knowledge for execution of café retail options.
- Use café training tools appropriately.
- Apply café safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines to maintain standards reliably.
