Job Summary
Assistant Store Manager partners with the Store Manager to plan, direct, and coordinate the daily operations of an assigned HOT Goodwill retail store. He/she helps team members understand performance goals, coaches them, and fosters an environment where people contribute meaningfully to the community. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant takes full responsibility for all store operations and serves as primary leader on site.
Key Responsibilities Store Operations & Merchandising- Maintain an adequate volume of merchandise on the sales floor and ensure production and rotation volume meets or exceeds revenue goals.
- Manage workflow and facility layout to maintain appropriate stock levels and efficient operations.
- Maintain store presentation standards including organization, merchandising, cleanliness, stock rotations, proper inventory levels, and signage.
- Operate the facility within budgeted expense levels; monitor and control expenses relative to revenue.
- Safeguard company equipment and property, including donated goods; report incidents of damage, misuse, theft, fraud, waste, or unauthorized possession.
- Partner with the Store Manager to maintain staffing at correct and budgeted levels; schedule appropriately.
- Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of employees.
- Consistently evaluate employee performance and address issues promptly; provide feedback to support performance reviews.
- Model the highest level of professionalism, demonstrating HOT Goodwill’s values in all interactions.
- Work various shifts, including weekends, as assigned.
- Ensure excellent customer service is provided to all shoppers and donors in line with HOT Goodwill’s mission and values.
- Present information effectively and respond to questions from employees, program participants, customers, and the public with tact, courtesy, and cooperativeness.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately with all levels of store leadership.
- Maintain proper cash controls in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Oversee and maintain neat, accurate, and timely completion of all assigned reports and records.
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the needs of the store and HOT Goodwill’s organizational goals.
- Directly supervise store staff in partnership with the Store Manager and assume full supervisory authority in the Store Manager’s absence.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in retail, including supervisory or team lead responsibilities.
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to assist in managing daily store operations, including inventory, merchandising, and staffing.
- Experience coaching and supporting team members to achieve performance goals.
- Familiarity with loss prevention, safety procedures, and adherence to company policies.
- Strong problem‑solving and customer service skills, with ability to handle escalated issues.
- Ability to support administrative tasks, scheduling, and achievement of store performance objectives.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, percentages, discounts, taxes, and commissions.
- Work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Complete assignments accurately and on time.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, procedural manuals, and reports.
- Write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.
- Accurately count money and handle financial transactions.
- Stand and walk for extended periods, with frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and use of hands and arms.
- Regularly lift and carry up to 30 pounds; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly works in a retail store environment exposed to airborne particles (including dust and lint from donated goods).
- The noise level ranges from quiet to very noisy depending on customer volume and operational activity.
- Work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
