Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and security of McLennan Community College’s students, faculty, and staff. This role involves upholding the laws of the State of Texas and enforcing the policies and guidelines established by the College.
Essential FunctionsThis position receives general direction from the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety and exercises no supervision.
NOTE:
This is a security sensitive position, and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
- Knowledge: Applicable laws, local ordinances, and college policies relevant to campus safety and security; standard security operations, protocols, and procedures; customer service best practices; telecommunications systems operations.
- Skills: Clear and concise written and verbal communication; understanding and following complex instructions accurately; active listening; conducting surveillance; safety management practices; preparing reports; balancing responsibilities; operating communication equipment; analyzing situations and implementing solutions; resolving conflicts; establishing relationships; operating patrol vehicles; meeting physical and mental demands; providing caring, high-quality service.
- Abilities: Complete and file daily reports accurately and timely; operate radios, cell phones, and other communication equipment effectively; identify issues, analyze situations, and implement effective solutions; resolve conflicts and facilitate consensus; establish and maintain effective working relationships; operate patrol vehicles safely and perform routine daily maintenance checks; meet the physical and mental demands; provide caring, high-quality service with professionalism and empathy.
Conditions
Exertive – significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward positions, sustained activities, frequent moderate lifting, significant risk of injury or loss of life.
Minimum Qualification RequirementsEducation:
High School diploma or GED.
Experience:
More than one year of relevant work experience.
Licenses or Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain Level 2 and Level 3 security training, certifications within 6 months of start date.
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under college automobile policy with an ability to maintain insurability.
Licenses or Certificates:
Possession of Level 3 security training/certification.
