Installation Technician, Building Maintenance
The Controls Foreman role is responsible for overseeing and managing the installation and implementation of building automation systems across multiple small projects. This full‑time, hourly position requires an individual with strong leadership capabilities, advanced technical knowledge, and the ability to coordinate teams effectively. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Tasksand Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the installation teams, ensuring that all work is performed according to plans, specifications, and company standards.
- Provide technical guidance and training to other control Installers and other team members to ensure proper installation of HVAC and building automation controls.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure smooth workflow and successful project completion.
- Perform quality control checks to ensure that all installations meet regulatory and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex installation issues on‑site, providing expert guidance to the installation team.
- Review and interpret project documentation, including blueprints, wiring diagrams, and specifications, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Manage site logistics, including the coordination of materials, equipment, and labor, to ensure efficient project execution.
- Monitor and report on project progress, identifying potential delays or issues and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure that all team members comply with company safety policies and procedures, including conducting safety meetings and inspections.
- Assist in the evaluation and development of team members, providing feedback and recommendations for advancement.
Job Requirements
- At least a two‑year technical certificate in HVAC or related field, or equivalent work experience in building automation and controls (minimum 4‑5 years).
- Previous experience in a Lead Controls Installer or similar role with a proven track record of successfully leading installation teams.
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical wiring, and building automation controls.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues on‑site.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, train, and motivate team members.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as project demands dictate.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or lead installer role.
- Previous experience as an Installer.
- Advanced understanding of building automation systems.
- Possess tools outlined in the Controls Career Matrix (Tool List 1 &
2). - Ability to implement and oversee quality control procedures for field operations to ensure optimal customer service, efficient use of equipment and time, and meeting of departmental strategic and budgetary goals.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a company vehicle if necessary (must be 21 years of age).
