Job Description

Probation Officer responsibilities include establishing and maintaining accurate case files through significant documentation, data entry, and scanning in the CSCD's computerized offender case management system. They interview probationers and/or defendants on supervision who are court-ordered to perform community service restitution (CSR) with the purpose of determining the skills and abilities of the individual. They assign probationers and/or defendants to perform CSR hours with community non-profit agencies which corresponds with the CSCD's CSR Program.

They track progress and inform Community Supervision Officers (CSOs) and probationers and/or defendants of progress, noncompliance, and successfully completion of CSR Program. They monitor, verify and enter program participation information of probationers and/or defendants officially assigned to the CSCD's CSR Program. They respond to telephone inquiries from agencies, probationers and/or defendants, and CSOs. They prepare and update all Community Service Restitution (CSR) records in the CSCD's computerized offender case management system in a timely fashion upon receipt of records from the assigned agency.

They plan and implement special projects through collaborative efforts with community nonprofit agencies. They maintain up to date Reciprocal Agreements with non-profit agencies utilized. They consult with CSOs to determine program participant eligibility. They identify, recruit, and make regular professional presentations to nonprofit agencies within the community. They conduct agency site visits as assigned. They provide testimony regarding client's participation in the CSR Program when required in Court(s).

They respond to telephone inquiries from agencies, participants, CSOs, the Courts, and other CSCD Staff. They recommend program procedures and policies changes to CSCD administration. They prepare correspondence for participants and CSR agency providers. They prepare and submit statistical reports on the number of CSR hours completed and the fiscal impact the community service program provides the community. Regular attendance and timeliness are required.

They participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned by assigned Staff Operations Manager, Deputy Director and/or CSCD Director.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

High school diploma and/or GED. Associate's degree (preferred).

Skills ~

Experience:

Knowledge of laws related the application of community service restitution. Knowledge of Community Justice Assistance Division's (CJAD) standards regarding community service restitution programs. Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with offenders, public, and co-workers. Demonstrated experience in managing multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines. Ability to use sound analytical reasoning to solve difficult or complex problems. Documented willingness to work and to exceed minimum expectations.

Ability and means to travel as needed. Willingness to adhere to policies of the CSCD and support the CSCD Administration despite pressure exerted by others. Effective conflict resolution skills. Ability to cooperate and collaborate with others of diverse backgrounds, cultures, or interests. Demonstrated ability to contribute to a workplace culture that is consistent with and emphasizes the CSCD's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License. Must provide proof of current automobile liability insurance. Must have a working and reliable vehicle.
