Position Overview
Drives water truck with capacity of 3,000 gallons to transport water to and from specified destinations.
Key Responsibilities- Drive truck to destination in a safe and efficient manner.
- Load truck either from water tower or other designated source.
- Apply water to construction area for dust control or to aid compaction of construction materials.
- Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
- Be assigned either to operate "over the road" or remain limited to a construction site.
- Maintain truck log according to state and federal regulations.
- Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures; wear PPE as required.
- Follow foreman's directions for daily tasks and project expectations.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment (tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, water); refer major problems to the foreman.
- Conduct daily pre‑and‑post inspections of the truck with required documentation.
- Assist in training less experienced employees on equipment operations, servicing and repair.
- Assist crew with other tasks when not operating the water truck.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude toward co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Maintain reliable attendance.
- Ensure Asphalt Rollers and Milling Machines are supplied with water as needed.
Less than high school education; or two years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
Work Requirements- Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License with Tank Endorsement (Class
B). - Must pass a medical exam to obtain a medical card per DOT regulations.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Present information effectively in one‑to‑one and small group settings with customers, clients, and employees.
- Perform basic arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, and divide two‑digit numbers, including in units of American currency and volume.
- Climb: ascend/descend three‑point entry into cab of equipment.
- Lift: exert physical strength to move objects weighing 0–100 lbs. from one level to another.
- Carry: hold or rest weighted objects (50–70 lbs.) on hands, arms, shoulders, or back while walking between locations.
- Bend: flex upper trunk forward while standing and knees extended or flexed when sitting.
- Push/Pull: exert force on or against an object up to 70 lbs. to move it.
- Reach: extend hands and arms in any direction.
- Kneel: maintain erect posture while resting weight on one or both knees.
- Stoop: flex upper body forward at the waist with partial knee flexion while standing.
- Twist: use hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers.
- Noise: sustained or intermittent noise that may cause distraction or hearing injury.
- Fumes: vaporous emissions from combustion or chemical reactions.
- Gases: carbon monoxide and ozone.
- Dust: airborne particles of any kind.
- Hazards: proximity to moving mechanical parts; slipping while ascending/descending equipment cab; exposure to high temperatures in summer and cold temperatures in winter.
- Protection: required to wear hard hat, safety glasses (prescription or non‑prescription) with side shields, safety vest, gloves, steel‑toed safety shoes, hearing protection.
