The Fleet Technician supports fleet operations by performing proactive maintenance, timely repairs, and preventive maintenance programs. This role ensures the safety, reliability, and cost-effective operation of all fleet equipment in accordance with the direction of the Regional Fleet Manager.
Responsibilities- Inspect, maintain, and repair yard trucks, reefer trailers, and company vehicles, including brakes, front-end components, engines, and related electrical systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all vehicles, including greasing, oil changes, filter changes, hose and belt replacements, lights, and electrical systems.
- Organize and track inventory of parts required for preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Monitor, review, and track tire conditions and issues on all trucks and trailers.
- Ensure drivers properly maintain and keep equipment clean.
- Respond to driver inquiries regarding vehicle and equipment concerns promptly and professionally.
- Maintain fueling systems and ensure adequate amount of fuel and DEF onsite.
- Keep the shop area clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist with maintaining the database of truck and trailer issues.
- Document and report damages, repairs, and maintenance schedules to management regularly.
- Provide support to other departments as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in a fleet mechanic role, demonstrating competency in similar duties.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Work requires significant attention to detail in safety, record keeping, logging, and inspections.
- Exceptional attention to detail in safety, record keeping, inspections, and logging.
- Basic proficiency with computer software applications.
- Ability to frequently lift 35‑50 lbs., with occasional lifting to 75 lbs.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and procedure documents.
- Willingness to work daily and weekend overtime as needed to meet business requirements.
- Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness in completing tasks.
- Customer-oriented with a focus on following company procedures while meeting customer needs.
- Honest and trustworthy, with strong integrity in the workplace.
- Safety-conscious, able to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
- Capable of performing tasks under pressure and meeting deadlines in stressful situations.
