Estimator, Construction, Quantity Surveyor

The Ruhlin Company seeks to hire an Estimator out of our Sharon Center or Columbus offices.

Prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more work types.

• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
• Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
• Maintain files of working documents as back‑up for estimate figures, including current/accurate information on prices from suppliers.
• Maintain database with current contact information for subcontractors and vendors.
• Update external company website with current bid information.
• Request quotes; organize, review, and log quotes received.
• Support other department personnel as required.
• Visit project sites to observe construction methods.
• Update skills for software tools and technology utilization.
• Perform post‑bid analysis; i.e. bid tabulations.
• Assist with cost control system set‑up.
• Participate in bid review meetings with owner or owner's representatives as needed.
• Participate in project hand‑off meetings.
• Assist with making phone calls or making copies of documents, proposals.
• Deliver major bids; pick up drawings and other miscellaneous bid‑related errands.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator.

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of construction experience.
• Advanced math and computer skills.
• Ability to conceptualize a project schedule from start through completion including sequence/phasing of work.
• Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control.
• Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and HCSS Heavy Bid is a plus; ability to learn additional software programs.
