Accountant – Rural Health Transformation Project
The state's largest agency Health & Human Services (HHS) is seeking an Accountant to help drive the success of the Rural Health Transformation Project and make a strategic impact within the state of North Dakota. Contribute your accounting expertise to a hands‑on accounting role where your skills directly influence the achievements of providing vital health and human services programs within the rural communities.
Responsibilities- Partner with program administrators to manage budgets, track expenditures, and ensure compliance with state and federal policies.
- Review payments to ensure costs are charged correctly.
- Monitor spend‑downs, contracts, and grant reconciliation for compliance.
- Prepare quarterly cash‑flow statements.
- Provide program leaders with budget reports to help them make effective decisions.
- Build the federal grant budget process for rural communities across the state.
- Support grant management tasks such as cost accounting, fund tracking, Uniform Guidance, contract management, auditing, procurement, accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field.
- A strong understanding of accounting principles and how to apply them.
- One (1) year of professional accounting experience which includes working with budgets, cost accounting, grant management, fund tracking, Uniform Guidance, contract management, auditing, procurement, accounts payable and/or accounts receivable.

ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model. This position may work remotely from within North Dakota with the ability to travel as needed for meetings.
Funding of PositionThis position is funded by a federal grant. If grant dollars do not exist, the continuation of the role will need to be reviewed.
