The Field Operations Solar & BESS Technician II will support our expanding teams locally and help grow our portfolio of photovoltaic (PV) solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) facilities while connecting the region to the broader Field Operations network. AES Clean Energy is looking for a seasoned Solar Technician with advanced troubleshooting experience. The ideal candidate will be a self‑starter, able to take direct instruction from Senior Technicians, and capable of leading, training, and teaching other technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Listen, collaborate, and apply advanced troubleshooting knowledge while supporting preventive and corrective maintenance at the Waikoloa site and other sites under construction.
  • Work with the Lead Technician to troubleshoot and repair all equipment safely and proactively, including PV solar modules, PV arrays, inverters, and BESS battery containers.
  • Communicate effectively to solve complex issues with the site team and AES Clean Energy engineers across North America.
  • Prioritize a long list of concerns and challenges and collaborate to develop a plan of action for correction.
  • Ensure all equipment operates at maximum efficiency to keep our customers’ grid stable.
  • Assist, lead, coordinate, and support third‑party technicians in performing preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Assist and coordinate the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of field services to facility owners.
  • Work closely with the Team Lead and technicians to remediate site issues and enhance the operating portfolio’s performance, aiming for maximum equipment availability.
  • Support safety and operational compliance by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain standard maintenance for vehicles and equipment, coordinate repairs, and manage shared equipment usage.
  • Assist with warranty claim processes, third‑party contractor onboarding, and scheduling.
  • Maintain an annual on‑call schedule, respond to after‑hours emergencies, and keep accurate, high‑quality documentation of all O&M activities.
  • Track inventory levels, initiate re‑orders of consumables and spare parts, and collaborate with procurement.
  • Participate in construction/commissioning activities as needed to ensure quality builds, punch‑list closeout, and smooth transition to the O&M team.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements, regulations, and AES company policies.
  • Stay current with applicable technical and safety standards and share knowledge with the team.
  • Perform other duties and administrative tasks as assigned by management.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and achieve goals.
  • Technical degree or equivalent journeyman qualification (preferred).
  • Three (3) years of experience as a solar PV technician, or five (5) years in a utility‑scale power plant.
  • Knowledge of industrial PV plant systems, processes, and protocols (OSHA, NFPA 70e, lockout/tagout, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with interpersonal strengths.
  • Result‑oriented, proactive problem solver with a leadership mindset.
  • Basic in‑the‑field measurement skills and electrical theory application.
  • Proficiency with CMMS, SCADA, equipment‑specific maintenance programs, and Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to a quality safety culture and incident‑free work environment.
  • NFPA 70E and OSHA 30 certifications.
  • Documented college degrees and certifications (verified by an outside assessment company).
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics, maintenance instructions, and procedures.
