Overview

This posting is to fill School Psychologist positions that provide services to students at various schools within the Maui District as needed. Positions are assigned by the Maui District Administration Office. The School Psychologist (SR‑24) supports students’ psychological and educational needs through assessment, counseling, intervention, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and families.

Salary Range

School Psychologist, SR‑24: $6,043.00 – $7,351.00. New external applicants start at the initial step, with potential advancement based on qualifications and funding. Hawaii State Department of Education employees are placed according to department regulations.

Examples of Duties
  • Provide educational personnel, parents, and families with psycho‑educational services designed to enhance student mental health, behavior, social competency, academic status, through assessments, behavior plans, and interventions.
  • Design and develop procedures promoting psychological well‑being and learning facilitation.
  • Plan skill‑enhancing activities for school personnel and parents.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with faculty, counselors, and other disciplines for service provision and program evaluation.
  • Consult parents, students, and staff on services for educational or mental health concerns.
  • Advise school personnel on behavioral/emotional concerns.
  • Counsel families in collaboration with school counselors.
  • Participate in crisis intervention planning and implementation.
  • Recommend psycho‑educational instruments for testing special‑needs students.
  • Coordinate in‑service training for staff in intervention strategies, screening, and behavior analysis.
  • Monitor identification and evaluation for students with special needs per state/federal rules.
  • Assist in program assessment, data preparation for due‑process proceedings.
  • Provide technical/clinical consultation to other professionals.
  • Represent the department in administrative or court hearings.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of: Roles of school psychologists; child/adolescent development; exceptionalities; learning theories; counseling and interventions; psycho‑educational test interpretation; educational principles; physiological psychology; statistics and research; legal/ethical aspects; applicable state/federal rules.

Ability to: Implement psychological services; apply theory to practice; collaborate as a team; manage time and decisions; maintain professional relationships; prepare reports; communicate effectively; engage in continued professional development.

Qualification Requirements
  • Master’s degree in school psychology with 1200‑hour internship (600 in school setting) or equivalent, with additional supervised work if internship less than required.
  • Master’s in educational or counseling psychology with requisite coursework and internship/experience.
  • Current school psychologist license or state certification.
  • Current Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) certification.
Driver’s License Requirement

Some positions require a current, valid driver’s license.

Payday
