We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Assistant (MA) to work in the Adult Medicine Department. The MA will perform administrative and patient care duties within the clinical care team, ensuring efficient, effective, safe, and quality-oriented service according to established policies and protocols.
The MA will work closely with the Registered Nurse (RN) and Medical Provider (MD/DO/NP/PA), and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide patient-centered care. Properly trained Medical Assistants may administer medications (topically, orally, and via injections such as SQ, IM, Vaccinations/Immunizations).
Essential Duties and Functions Core Clinical Responsibilities:Service Pre-Visit Patient Care
- Coordinate pre-visit planning with RN and Medical Provider.
- Review protocols due for the patient.
- Contact new patients with chronic disease indicators for pre-visit assessments.
- Identify High Needs Patients and coordinate care plans.
- Request medical records and patient consent documentation.
- Identify and address patients' special needs, such as translation and transportation.
- Ensure labs and imaging are completed prior to visits if needed.
- Advise patients on necessary paperwork and bring necessary documents.
- Check inventory and supplies.
- Prepare exam rooms and set up for tests and procedures.
- Verify patient identity and check schedule.
- Perform vital signs, EKG, hearing and eye tests, and document in EMR.
- Conduct screenings and assist with treatment and medication management.
- Coordinate with providers and facilitate patient education and referrals.
- Assist with discharge procedures and patient understanding.
- Answer phones professionally.
- Manage EMR inbox, patient paperwork, and appointment scheduling.
- Perform patient care coordination tasks such as referrals and prior authorizations.
- Check emergency equipment and perform quality control on lab tests and instruments.
- Maintain inventory supplies.
- Participate in ongoing education and quality initiatives.
- Follow clinical protocols and emergency procedures.
Medical Assistants with proper training may perform medication administration via oral, topical, and injectable routes, including immunizations.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a medication administration course prior to or within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum one-year experience as a Medical Assistant or Nurse Aid preferred.
- Skills in vital signs, record keeping, safety, and communication.
- Certifications:
Valid driver’s license, TB clearance, BLS CPR, COVID vaccination or approved exemption.
