Overview
Recruitment Number 23-0724. The Department of Health, Hansen's Disease Control Branch has one urgent vacancy located on Kalaupapa Settlement in Kalawao County, Molokai.
Location and contextKalaupapa is a small, isolated community with limited access. The settlement includes a care home, grocery store, gas station, airport, motor pool, carpenter shop, landfill, State library, U.S. Post Office and more than 150 homes and buildings.
Shift WorkApplicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Role and responsibilitiesPerform housekeeping and personal care services to families or the elderly to assist in maintaining an independent lifestyle as a primary assignment.
Responsibilities include:
- Cooking, housecleaning, laundering, meal planning and preparation
- Grocery shopping, budgeting, feeding and bathing children or elderly clients
- Running errands or transporting clients to banks, stores, schools, etc.
- Teach clients by demonstration, example and/or instruction in housekeeping and personal care services
- Observe relationships, unusual incidents, behavior or changes in health, and report to the supervisor
- Perform other related duties as assigned
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- General
Experience:
Ability to read, comprehend and write English. High school diploma satisfies this requirement. - Legal Authorization to Work: United States citizenship, nationality or permanent resident status or eligibility for unrestricted employment under federal law.
- Specialized
Experience:
THREE (3) years of work experience managing a household and providing care services to families or the elderly. Acceptable experience includes homemaker/parent and chore services worker. Experience may be part-time or unpaid with continuous participation. - Knowledge: General housekeeping methods, supplies and equipment; cooking; use and care of appliances; personal hygiene; first aid and safety; and care for others.
- Ability: Provide personal care services; maintain a neat home; follow oral and written instructions; perform basic arithmetic.
