Maui Health is proud to offer support and education to new graduate nurses as they transition into their professional nursing careers. Our Nurse Residency Program launched in January 2019 as part of an initiative to build a sustainable workforce with talented members of our own community. To date, the program has graduated over 200 new nurses.
With support from Hawaii State Center for Nursing (HSCN), the 12-month curriculum creates a path for new nurses to safely transition from students to competent and confident members of the health care team.
New graduate nurses are hired into all clinical areas, including specialty areas, based on need.

Program details
The Nurse Residency Program is designed to support nurses in their development as professional nurses to bolster knowledge, skills, and critical thinking with new cohorts starting every year in the fall. The 12-month program offers:
Classroom and laboratory orientation
Precepted unit orientation
Twice monthly classes (first four months), followed by monthly classes on a designated day each month
Nurse Residents receive support from peers and clinical experts and complete a facilitated evidence- based practice project by completion of the program.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Current license as a State of Hawaii Registered Professional Nurse
Less than one year of acute care nursing experience
Commitment to a one year program
