Description

The Residential Specialist supports the goals of the Safe House program by performing essential functions to maintain the facility, supervise and monitor residents, coordinate program activities, and provide crisis counseling as needed.

Minimum & Essential Qualifications
  • High school graduate.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with at‑risk or troubled youth, or in a residential or social service setting, or a combination thereof.
  • Valid State .
  • Valid TB clearance and pre‑employment medical clearance.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • DHS FBI/Criminal History & CAN cleared.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in human services or related field, or two years of college‑level study in human services and one year of experience working with juveniles; a Bachelor's degree in human services or related field.
  • Completion of Professional Residential Child Care and Youth Care Certification.
  • Additional relevant certifications or trainings.
Essential Functions
  • Ensure upkeep of the facility to meet program and licensing standards and report any unmet conditions.
  • Schedule group program activities with the Program Manager for after‑school, weekends, holidays, and vacations.
  • Maintain proper supervision and monitoring of all client residents during assigned shifts.
  • Ensure completeness of resident files and program files.
  • Maintain consistency in program procedures and policies.
  • Monitor resident service contracts and coordinate all agencies involved with the resident.
  • Ensure all programs and resident needs are met continuously and report training needs to the Program Manager.
  • Accompany staff driver when transporting residents.
  • Complete required daily reports/consultations on each resident.
  • Monitor phones, visitors, workers, and parents and handle emergencies and crisis calls.
  • Aid the Program Manager with supervision of Residential Assistants and volunteers.
  • Facilitate scheduled house/group meetings, fire drills, and document them.
  • Serve as a crisis counselor during duty – on phone or in person with youth and/or parents.
  • Model professional behavior, communication, decision making, discipline, organization, and cleanliness, maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Support the service‑plan provision of resident clients as established by the Program Manager.
  • Participate in individual, group, and family counseling sessions when appropriate.
  • Maintain all required documentation and provide monthly program summary and statistical data to the Program Manager.
  • Participate in public information campaigns and represent the agency in the community.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, retreats, conferences, growth groups, and other scheduled or required events.
  • Conduct grocery shopping, menu planning, and supervise residents in meal preparation.
  • Professionally manage at‑risk behavior problems.
  • Work all assigned shifts and rotations, including morning, afternoon, evening, early‑morning, and weekends.
  • Perform duties in the Safe House facility.
