Position: Waimea High: Special Education Multi-Disciplinary Inclusion Teacher, 64414 (2026-01435)
Location: Waimea/Kamuela

Description

Special Education – provide push‑in support for students with special needs in general education classes, and prepare IEPs for caseload students.

Qualifications
  • Valid Special Education license from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
  • Special‑education classroom experience in a K‑12 school setting.
Desired Knowledge
  • Plan and facilitate Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings; exercise independent and professional judgment in carrying out daily functions; maintain an effective work pace under pressure to meet deadlines; grasp new concepts quickly and apply them effectively; work effectively with others.
Hiring Requirements
  • Must have earned a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must possess a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit. If hired without completing a Teacher’s Education Program, the teacher has a maximum of three years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. The teacher must enroll in a program aligned with the teaching line hired and demonstrate active pursuit of licensing requirements each employment year.
Payday & Benefits
  • First paycheck expected within the first three pay periods of the start date. Payday occurs on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of each month.
  • Compensation: 10‑month teachers compensated according to the Bargaining Unit 05 10‑month salary schedule.
  • Paid sick leave: 18 days of paid sick leave (six days available for personal or professional development) during the school year, plus State and Federal holidays, provided all conditions of the collective bargaining agreement are met.
  • Health insurance:
    The state pays a portion of premiums for each employee’s enrollment in state‑sponsored Medical, Drug, Vision, and Adult Dental plans.
  • Group life insurance:
    Free life insurance policy for employees and retirees.
  • Premium conversion plan:
    State deducts the cost of health care premiums before payroll taxes are withheld.
  • Flexible spending accounts:
    Eligible employees may reduce federal and state income taxes and social security taxes through a tax‑savings benefit program.
  • Retirement plan:
    The state contributes to a retirement plan for eligible employees. Employees with at least ten years of credited service who have reached 62 years of age, or those with thirty years of credited service and are 55 years of age, may retire and receive benefits.
  • Tax shelter annuity (TSA):
    Eligible employees may participate in a tax‑shelter annuity program.
  • Deferred compensation:
    The state offers a tax‑deferred retirement investment program with various investment options.
  • Temporary disability insurance:
    Qualified employees may receive benefits for a disability caused by a non‑work related injury or illness.
  • Social security:
    The state contributes to the employee’s Social Security account.
  • Workers’ compensation:
    Available for medical expenses and partial wage support for on‑the‑job injuries.
  • Union & collective bargaining: 12‑month teachers are represented by the Hawaii State Teachers Association.
