JOB DUTIES :This is a regional position that is located in the General Accounting, or Finance, department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. HHSC Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both critical access hospitals;
The Kaua’i Region Clinics; and its affiliates.
The General Accounting department manages a variety of essential functions that ensure the financial integrity and efficiency of the organization. It oversees the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger management. The department is responsible for reconciling bank statements, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and preparing timely financial reports for management and stakeholders.
Additionally, it conducts budget planning and analysis, monitors cash flow, and assists in the audit process to maintain transparency and accountability. By providing critical financial insights and support, the accounting department plays a vital role in the strategic decision-making process of the organization.
The Regional Comptroller is responsible for assisting in business development and financial strategy, as well as planning, organizing, and directing all financial activities for the Kaua’i Region. This includes planning and implementing specific programs, policies, and procedures; providing consultative and advisory services; conducting financial reporting and analysis; overseeing budgeting and forecasting; managing internal controls and auditing; and performing pro forma and data analytical reviews.
This position also manages cash flow, debt management, and collections. The role entails processing a significant volume of transactions within a limited timeframe and requires regular travel to Kaua’i Region facilities as directed to perform finance functions. Additionally, this role necessitates long and irregular hours, including nights and holidays, particularly during month-end and year-end closing periods, and may involve providing leave coverage for other lower-level positions within the department.
This position reports to the Regional Chief Financial Officer (RCFO), position number 109672, or their designee.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. Applicants are required to provide evidence of education, certifications, and licensures.
EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in accounting, finance, business, healthcare administration, or a related field. EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in financial management and leadership, with a strong background in financial reporting, budget preparation and control, personnel administration, and understanding of proper internal control functions.
